Nassau With Kids
Calm beaches, short boat rides, rainy-day options and where to eat when everyone is tired.
Beaches with the calmest water
Blue Lagoon Island's enclosed lagoon is the safest swim for small children — shallow, shaded, with facilities. The western end of Cable Beach near Goodman's Bay is next best and free. Cabbage Beach has the prettiest water but can have shore break and vendor pressure at midday; go before 10am. Jaws Beach out west is flat, quiet and has picnic tables.
Boat days that actually work with children
Keep crossings under 45 minutes. Blue Lagoon and a west-end reef snorkel both qualify; the full Exuma pigs day involves two to three hours of boat each way and is hard under about age eight. If you do want the pigs, take the flight-and-boat version instead of the long boat.
Rainy day and heat-of-the-afternoon
Atlantis marine habitats and Aquaventure (day passes are limited and sell out — check availability before you count on it), the Pirates of Nassau museum downtown, and the Graycliff chocolate factory workshop, which is the sleeper hit with 6–12 year olds. The Ardastra Gardens flamingo marching is short, shaded and cheap.
Eating with tired children
Olives in Sandyport for early dinner with space to move, an early Fish Fry table at Arawak Cay for conch fritters before the music starts, or the poolside options at Baha Mar if you are staying there. Most kitchens are happy to split a main; portions are large.
Practical
Bring your own snorkel masks for small faces — rental sets leak. Strollers are hard work on Bay Street and on sand; a carrier is better. Pharmacies are well stocked in Cable Beach and downtown, and Doctors Hospital in Nassau handles paediatric emergencies. Sun is strongest 11am–3pm; plan indoor time then rather than fighting it.
